Designing the Easter Egg

The Art of Tea by Newby transforms the Easter Egg into an exquisite silver teapot. It is directly inspired by a masterpiece in the Chitra Collection: a Fabergé silver tea kettle made in 1893. Best known for creating the ornate and intricately designed Imperial Easter Eggs gifted amongst members of the last Romanov Imperial family, the House of Fabergé was the most prestigious manufacturer of luxury goods in Russia in the mid-19th and early 20th centuries. The design of the egg has been expertly crafted by renowned jeweller Benjamin Hawkins London Ltd and brought to life by award-winning silversmith Oscar Saurin. The silver-plated brass teapot Easter egg utilises traditional silversmithing techniques on a grand scale. A work of art, it embodies Newby Teas’ dedication to craftsmanship and sustainability.

Oscar Saurin: The Silversmith who Hand-Crafted the Sculpture

“The teapot was hand-raised in sections, assembled, and silver-plated to achieve a flawless mirror finish. Over 200 hours of meticulous craftsmanship went into its creation.” Explains Oscar Saurin.

Oscar Saurin is an award-winning silversmith, who began his career at the Goldsmiths’ Centre. In 2022, he opened his own silversmithing company. Oscar’s work is deeply rooted in the traditional apprenticeship training he received under a master silversmith, along with his admiration for historical silverware. His current focus on restoration further informs and inspires the creation of his commissioned works.
